Oldie, but goodie

I made up this pattern a couple years ago. It was the first (and only--so far) paper pieced pattern that I have created myself. Even with the binding it measures less than 14" x 14". Someday I'll have to post the instructions.

One quilting trick used for this quilt that works with dark fabrics is to:
1. Print out your quilting pattern line art, or draw on paper
2. Take a pin and poke a series of holes closely spaced on the lines
3. Position quilting pattern over quilt or block
4. Use a chalk pounce over all the line work to transfer design

The quilt lines will get transferred through the perforated holes and the marks easily come off when done. I don't know if there are colors of chalk that will work for lighter fabrics. I can't imagine this is an original idea, but it is not something I remember hearing anywhere.

I have done this before with cinnamon. I trace the design on freezer paper, sew over it with the machine (with a needle I only use for sewing on paper), and then pounce it with cinnamon. Smells good!

The mini quilt is so pretty. I never think about using dark backgrounds and it looks fabulous!

So glad I found your blog. I love this quilt. Its so great what black or dark colors sometimes does instead of using white. It can be a really stunning neutral. Darling quilt.
